A five-day-old infant has tested positive for the new coronavirus in Chittagong.
The sample of the newborn tested at the laboratory of Chittagong Medical College came back positive on Thursday (May 28).
The baby was one-day-old when the sample was taken from him for the COVID-19 test on May 25.
Previously on May 24, a 32-year old woman was admitted to Chittagong General Hospital where she gave birth to a baby boy by caesarean delivery .
At that time, the mother was undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital. She was later shifted to Chittagong General Hospital after she was confirmed as a COVID-19 patient.
As the mother was a COVID-19 patient, so sample was collected from the newborn baby as well for a COVID-19 test.
Chittagong Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said that the mother and her baby are undergoing treatment at Chittagong General Hospital and their condition is stable.
