Sri Lankan government has announced that steps will be taken to ban the use of plastic and polythene in the future.

“The ban will be implemented while introducing alternatives to the use of plastic and polythene,” Minister of Environment Mahinda Amaraweera said.

He said the decision was made after reviewing the damage caused to the environment by the use of plastic and polythene.

“I will meet with members of the Polythene Manufacturers Association today (September 11) to discuss the matter,” Minister Amaraweera added.
