On the joyful occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the social organisation BD Nouka Baich Group distributed Eid gifts to hardworking and underprivileged boatmen in Lahiri Mohanpur, Sirajganj.
The initiative was taken to honour and support the dedicated boatmen who have been preserving the centuries-old tradition of boat racing in Bengal. Organisers said these boatmen are the true guardians of this rich cultural heritage and deserve appreciation, especially during festive occasions like Eid.
This year’s Eid gift program placed special focus on the rowers of four popular boats. The beneficiaries included boatmen from Mayer Doa of Chaksa, Koibortogati New Ekota Express, Al Madina Express of Chinadhukuria, and New Uronto Bolaka of Bongram.
The event was attended by the President of BD Nouka Baich Group, GM Shanto Mondol. Speaking on the occasion, he said boat racing is a vital part of Bengali culture and identity. He added that although the Eid gift distribution was organised on a limited scale this year, there are plans to expand the initiative in the future.
The organisation’s Publicity Secretary, Mahmudul Hasan Titas, was also present. The humanitarian effort received warm and positive responses from the local community. Organisers expressed hope that continued support from well-off members of society will help inspire and assist the custodians of this traditional cultural heritage.
