A devastating fire in the early hours of Tuesday (March 3) reduced the home and livelihoods of a poverty-stricken family to ashes in Hazirgal village, Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila. The victim, Mohammad Khairul Islam, a local rickshaw puller, discovered the blaze shortly after finishing his Sehri and morning prayers, suspecting that an electric auto-rickshaw left on charge may have sparked the fire. Despite the efforts of neighbors to douse the flames, the fire completely destroyed the residential house, killed one goat, severely injured another, and gutted both his rickshaw and a bicycle.
With total losses estimated at over 200,000 BDT, Khairul expressed his heartbreak, noting that the house and livestock represented years of hard-earned savings meant to support his mother, wife, and children. Local Union Parishad Member Arman Hossain Ujjal visited the scene and confirmed the extent of the damage, attributing the cause to a likely electrical short circuit. While the incident has been reported to the UP Chairman for administrative support, the family is now appealing to the government for urgent assistance to rebuild their lives from the wreckage.
