A state of unrest has developed among residents of the Char Sholakia area in Kishoreganj, following allegations of unlawful occupation of a longstanding access route. The family impacted asserts that multiple neighbouring individuals have forcibly seized the road, obstructed passage, and issued threats of death.
According to the complaint, a permanent resident of Char Sholakia acquired ownership of the land in 1974 and authorised the construction of a residence in 1985, with approval from Kishoreganj Municipality. For nearly four decades, a pathway approximately 4 feet 6 inches wide, situated on the eastern side of the property, has been used for ingress and egress. Infrastructure, such as gas, water, and electricity connections, was installed through this passage, and its right of access is documented in official land records.
However, issues about drainage construction and municipal jurisdiction prompted Didarul Islam, the owner of the adjacent southern plot, to assert ownership over the road as private property. Assisted by a neighbouring landowner, Mamun, he purportedly created obstructions to hinder movement along the access route.
The complainant reported that multiple attempts were made to resolve the dispute amicably at the local level, but without success. On 31st March 2024, a formal written complaint was submitted to the mayor. The mayor reportedly directed the involved parties to maintain the status quo with the road open, following boundary clarification through land measurement.
Despite these directives, it is alleged that on the subsequent night, Didarul Islam and his associates occupied a segment of the road, narrowed its width, and assumed control. A wall was also erected to block access. Subsequently, in the presence of the ward commissioner and with the assistance of residents, the wall was dismantled and the road was reopened.
The complaint further indicates that toward the end of the previous year, an attempt was made to reconstruct the wall. When the affected family resisted, they claimed to have been assaulted and threatened with death. It is also alleged that water was deliberately diverted toward their residence to induce waterlogging, and a tin fence was installed on the contested section.
Most recently, on the afternoon of 27th March 2026, the accused purportedly issued threats again when the victim attempted to prevent them from illegally depositing soil on his land.
The family has called for prompt intervention by the local authorities. Efforts to secure comments from the accused have been unsuccessful.
