She continues to work for equality and justice as a health and social worker.
She is a doctor by profession. She completed her SSC from Dhanmondi Government Girls’ High School and HSC from Holy Cross College and obtained her MBBS degree from Rangpur Medical College. Then she obtained her master’s degree in reproductive and child health and non-communicable diseases from the Philippines and the USA respectively and joined the joint project of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the Ministry of Public Health Afghanistan as an international position (Technical Support Specialist). After obtaining a higher degree in hormone and metabolic diseases, she joined the world-class healthcare organization Concord Diagnostics and Molecular Lab as a consultant endocrinologist.
She has made significant contributions to the public health sector at home and abroad. She has worked with USAID, DFID, SIDA, Plan International Bangladesh in Bangladesh.
She also completed a diploma course on asthma jointly organized by icddr,b and Education for Health (UK). She has provided training on quality assurance and quality of care in reproductive health in various government hospitals in Bangladesh for a long time. She is a former trainer of icddr,b and a guest trainer of NIPORT.
Dr. Shakira Nova is a skilled physician, researcher, TV presenter, writer, musician, reciter and social worker. For more than a decade, she has presented health programs on various television channels including Channel i, ATN Bangla, ATN News, Ekushey TV, SA TV, Desh TV, Asian TV, Baisakhi TV, Mohana TV, Nexus TV. Apart from health programs, she has also presented music programs on various channels and stages. She presented a health program called “Doctor’s Voice” at Mount Elizabeth Orchard, Mount Elizabeth Novena and Mount Elizabeth Gleneagles Hospitals in Singapore, which is aired on SA TV. She also works as a news anchor at Millennium TV USA.
She has been deeply involved with literature and culture since childhood. She completed a course in Nazrul Sangeet from Bulbul Lalit Kala Academy. She is also known as a brand celebrity in the cultural and literary field. Her voice is melodious. When she gets free, she performs music on various TV channels. She has written more than a hundred English and Bengali poems. Life, pain, struggle, revival and inspiration are the main reflections of her poems.
Her contribution in the field of sports is also important. She is the first female sports medicine physician recognized by the International Olympic Committee. She has made Bangladesh proud by working as a female sports medicine physician in various international competitions including the South Asian Games. She was a member of the medical committee of the Bangladesh Olympic Association and the Bangladesh Football Federation and the first female physician. She worked completely unpaid and selflessly. She worked as a member of the executive committee of the Bangladesh Women’s Sports Federation for five consecutive years. The West Bengal State Sports Board recognized his work skills.
Rotarian Dr. Shakira Nova is involved in various social organizations and continues to work with the poor and helpless. She regularly writes articles on women’s empowerment, reproductive health rights and non-communicable diseases in various national and international newspapers. Nepal’s daily “The Himalayan” published news on her contribution.
Her poetry book “WOMEN WHO UNDEFEATED” was published at the 2025 Amar Ekushey Book Fair. The book has been praised in many countries around the world. In continuation of this, her writings are being published continuously in the famous Polis magazine of Greece, Alessandria Today of Italy and European Union Poetry. Since January 1, 2025, she has been serving as the Chief Executive Officer of
Telelink Group. At the same time, she is working in the fields of medical services, literature and culture.
In her personal life, she is the mother of two sons. Dr. Nova is a unique workaholic—a multi-talented doctor, researcher, social worker, writer, musician, reciter, and TV presenter. Along with fulfilling her family responsibilities, she is equally skilled in social and intellectual fields.
