Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has vowed to take strict action against those involved in a brutal attack on two journalists in Kishoreganj. The incident occurred on February 5, when an “auction syndicate” targeted local reporters covering an auction at the historic Pagla Mosque. Expressing deep concern, the Minister personally telephoned Faizul Islam Bhuiyan Pinku, the Global TV district correspondent and Joint General Secretary of the Kishoreganj Journalist Forum, on Sunday to inquire about his health and assure him that the government stands firmly with the media community. Minister Swapon has already directed the local Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police to prioritize the investigation and ensure justice.

The attack left Pinku and Khairul Alam Faisal, the district correspondent for Channel 24, seriously injured. Following the assault, a case was filed against eight named individuals and ten unidentified suspects at the Kishoreganj Sadar Model Thana. While the police have arrested two suspects and applied for a three-day remand, Pinku has raised concerns that several other accused individuals remain at large and are reportedly issuing threats to the victims. The Kishoreganj Model Thana OC, Md. Abul Kalam Bhuiyan, confirmed that the remand hearing is scheduled for next Tuesday, as authorities face increasing pressure to apprehend the remaining perpetrators.
