A heartbreaking incident has occurred in the No. 2 Sahasram Dhuldia Union of Katiadi Upazila in Kishoreganj. Altaf Uddin Shahin (53), former chairman of the Union Parishad and former general secretary of the Union Awami League, died of a cardiac arrest. Just four hours after his death, his grief-stricken mother, Mst. Zubaida Moni (80), also passed away, unable to bear the shock of losing her son.

According to family sources, in the early hours of Sunday (April 25), at around 2:00 AM, Altaf Uddin Shahin suddenly experienced severe chest pain while staying in Gazipur. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Shahin had served as chairman of the No. 2 Sahasram Dhuldia Union Parishad from 2009 to 2015, and was awarded a gold medal in 2014 in recognition of his outstanding service. His father is Haji Md. Monir Uddin. Although his ancestral home is in Raikhola village of Katiadi, he had been living in Gazipur for many years.

When news of his death reached the family home in the village in the early morning, grief descended over the entire household. At approximately 5:45 AM on Sunday, his mother, Mst. Zubaida Moni, breathed her last at her own home — unable to endure the loss of her beloved son.

Habib Akanda, the deceased Shahin’s brother-in-law, said: “The chairman’s mother, Zubaida Moni, had been unwell for a long time. She loved Shahin dearly. Even though he lived in Gazipur due to the political situation, he would frequently come home to see her. She was deeply attached to him — and perhaps that very attachment made it impossible for her to survive the news of his death.”

Aminul Islam Moharam, the current chairman of No. 2 Sahasram Dhuldia Union Parishad, said: “The mother’s death just four hours after her son’s has cast a shadow of grief over the entire area. This is truly a deeply sorrowful incident. The consecutive deaths of a mother and son from the same family have shaken the community and filled the region with mourning.”
