In a move to blend heritage with modern aesthetics, the foundation stone for a decorative new entrance gate was officially laid at the historic Sholakia Eidgah Maidan in Kishoreganj on Tuesday, May 12. The project was inaugurated by Zila Parishad Administrator Khaled Saifullah VP Sohel, fulfilling a public pledge he made to hundreds of thousands of devotees during the 199th Eid-ul-Fitr congregation. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Eidgah Imam Mufti Abul Khair Mohammad Saifullah and local political and media representatives, who emphasized the importance of preserving the site’s 200-year-old legacy. Located on the banks of the Narasunda River, Sholakia remains one of the largest and oldest prayer grounds in the country, and this new landmark is expected to enhance the grandeur of the seven-acre site while improving facilities for the massive influx of pilgrims who gather there annually.
